The site of the smackdown between the convent and strip club is Stone Park, Illinois---Chicago's west suburban "Sin City."
According to a FoxNews report, the problem causing the smackdown is that "Get It" is being constructed within 2 feet of the convent's fence line. However, the convent's property extends across both Stone Park and adjacent Melrose Park.
While the Mayor of Stone Park, Beniamino Mazzulla, would prefer that the village not play host to "Get It," he claims that his hands are tied. But, the Mayor of Melrose Park, Ronald Serpico, has enjoined in the battle, aligning himself with the convent. A Roman Catholic, Serpico is examining the options available to block "Get It" from opening.
The owner of "Get It, Bob Itzkow, isn't interested in a lawsuit, but does think the extra publicity will benefit the strip club.
The Motley Monk all sorts of possibilities for the New Evangelization here.

Get It is a legal business that has paid for all permits needed to open a business in Stone Park. The owner has spent a lot of money to sound proof the building and block lighting from disturbing the Nuns. It is estimated that the bar will employ 100 people.
ReplyDeleteI feel for the Nuns and I certainly wouldn't want to have a nite club, of any kind, next to my home. However, Stone Park and Melrose Park are home to many clubs, bars, abandoned buildings, garages and businesses.
"Questionable" businesses have been part of the town for decades. Zoning issues and quality of life issues impact all residents, including the Nuns.
Too bad the Nuns, the Church and their supporters didn't start this 'campaign' years ago. Perhaps Stone Park would have been a more family friendly place, comfortable for the Nuns and their neighbors,if any of them would have taken a stand.
Now it seems, too little - too late.
