That seems to be the attitude and strategy of the Obama administration, especially when it comes to electric cars.

| The Chevy Volt: The new "Edsel"? |
The Detroit Free Press reports that electric cars in 2010 not only generated some technological failures but also failed to generate sales. Superadded to their high price and with fuel prices remaining relatively stable, market indicators are that electric vehicles should be going the way of the Edsel...except that the Obama administration is backing the venture.
The facts, as of November 2010:
- General Motors thought it would sell 10k Volts. In reality, 6,142 Volts were sold at $39,995/vehicle.
- Nissan sold 8,720 Leafs at $36,050/vehicle.
That's a whopping 14,962 electric cars sold in the USA!
The obvious conclusion: The market just isn't interested in those cars.

| "Take my word for it. You're will love these cars!" |
But, the results are even worse when an Obama administration federal subsidy to buyers in the form of a tax credit for $7.5k is factored into the analysis.
Typical of those who worship at the altar of environmentalism, the facts aren't allowed to interfere with the ideology.
Let the discussion begin...

Ford paid to develop the Edsel.
ReplyDeleteFord was responsible for its failure.
Ford learned from its mistake and introduced the Mustang in 1964.
From Failure To Success....
GM went broke
The Government took over
They threw out management
They let the Union leaders stay
They cheated the bond holders
They created the NEW GM
THEY THEN....unveiled the VOLT.
Another example of big government, political cronyism, archaic Unions and the ignorance of the American people.
