Consider these statistics published by the Archives of Diseases in Childhood:
- Due to women having children later in life, it was expected between 1989-2005 that there would be a 15% increase in babies born with Down syndrome. However, there was a 34% decrease, namely, a 49% decrease in births of babies with Down syndrome.
- Due to prenatal testing and abortion, the abortion rate for babies diagnosed with Down syndrome is 92% in the U.S. and higher in Europe.
The MaterniT21 test can be performed at 10 weeks and with 99% accuracy (traditional tests are performed at 22 weeks). It is believed, therefore, that the abortion rate of children identified as having Down syndrome will undoubtedly increase, since the idea of having an abortion is less abhorrent to mothers at 10 weeks than at 22 weeks.
Now for the "dirty little secret."

The Obamacare regulations recommended by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, and scheduled to take effect next year, mandate the federal government (i.e., taxpayers) to pay for the MaterniT21 test.
Yes, indeed. The Obama administration and its agents---in this case, a Catholic---fully intend to decrease the frequency of abortion in the United States, as President Barack Obama promised Pope Benedict on July 10, 2009.

As usual, you are ignoring the actual "dirty little secret" it's called personal responsibility for one's actions. Abortion, here and in Europe, is legal. This is abhorrent to me. Yet it is still a fact.
ReplyDeleteI blame myself - yes, myself, and everyone else that is pro-life that we have not yet achieved protection for children within the womb by not being persuasive enough, or loud enough, or prayerful enough, or whatever enough to end this scourge.
But to blame the Obama administration's use of enhanced medical technology for a potential rise in the abortion rate is typical of the MM's failure to accept that people do bad, wicked, evil things sometimes and they need to be called on their own personal doings.
Speaking of Wall Street....
Would it not less confusing, to refer to such as Mrs. Pelosi, Mr. Biden, Mr. Cuomo Jr. by the traditional term of "fallen away Catholics"?
ReplyDeleteMavornius's point is valid, in my view, up to a point. However, as TMM points out, it is US taxpayers who, as a direct result of ObamaCare, will have to pay for the MaternitT21 test, the sole objective of which is to identify babies with Down Syndrome. Presumbaly, this identification will lead to an increase in the direct, voluntary abortion of babies destined to suffer from this syndrome. So, in my view, TMM is correct in understanding the mandated, public funding of this test as a public policy issue with ethical implications for Catholics, and he is correct in pinning this issue directly on the Obama Administration.
ReplyDeleteJust because something is legal doesn't mean it is right or just.
ReplyDeleteThe real disgrace is a government and so-called 'Catholics' in that government trying to justify THEIR political choices and agenda by pandering to electorate. You know, tell the Pope what he wants to hear and do whatever you want.
Obama and his minions, like Sebelius, learned well from his mentor, Saul Alinsky. Shout louder, cause confusion, create distortion, attack the integrity of your opponent and when all else fails.. LIE LIE LIE
Politicians like Obama, Pelosi and Sebelius have the right to sponsor and support abortion legislation. They don't have the right to spin their beliefs to the electorate, hide behind political double-talk and make us complicit to the crime of abortion through Federal funding schemes.
